I was born Maria Andreyevina  Klimova March 24, 1995 in Perm, Russia.  I arrived three and half months premature and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after being placed in an orphanage in Perm, I was adopted by Dwayne and Barbara Flinn just before my second birthday.  Today, my name is Maria “Masha” Larissa Flinn.  My family lived on a ranch outside the small town of Story, Wyoming.  They raised llamas, alpacas, quarter horses, miniature donkeys and fainting goats.   I am the youngest of five children, having three older sisters and one brother.  My parents started taking me to Salt Lake City to see the doctors at Shiners’ hospital and Primary Children’s hospital.  We had to travel a lot for my appointments, so my family finally decided to move to Utah when I was ten years old.  They knew that in order for me to improve, I needed to be closer to the great hospitals.  It took us eight months to move the family and all the animals here.  We now live on a ranch between Kamas and Park City. 

I am currently a sophomore in high school.  I take online classes through South Summit High School and attend the Prospector Art School in Park City Monday thru Friday.  Art is my love and  I hope to double major in it and education someday.  I also enjoy horseback riding and am very active in Special Olympics where I participate in bowling, bocce, and equestrian. 

Being a part of the Miss Wheelchair Utah Pageant has been a great experience for me.  I have really enjoyed meeting all the other contestants.  They are such an inspiration to be around.  I have found that I can do anything I want and that nothing is off limits just because I have to be in a wheelchair.  The pageant itself was a magical time and I will cherish the experience and the friendships I have made from it always.
